Marketing Audit for Ecommerce Brands Running Ads and Email

A Hey Frankie marketing audit is a paid, founder-led review of an ecommerce brand's ad accounts (Meta, Google or TikTok) or its Klaviyo email program, measured against store revenue instead of the platforms' own numbers. It takes about three days. Ryan Shell, who has directed $50M+ in paid media, walks you through every finding himself.

What the audit actually covers

We audit one channel or two: your ads, your email, or both together. Every finding comes back with the dollars at stake, because a list of problems with no price on them never gets fixed.

Store revenue against what the platforms report

Meta, Google and TikTok each grade their own homework. We put their reported results next to your Shopify revenue, new-customer count and average order value, and show you where the two stories split. The platform's best campaign and the bank's best campaign are often not the same one.

How fast your ad account learns

We look at how often new ads launch, how long losing ads keep spending, and how much of your budget sits on creative that is months old. Accounts that launch ads once or twice a month and leave them alone are paying full price for old information.

Where the money is concentrated

We check whether your spend and your results lean on one product or one customer group, and what happens to new customers versus returning ones. A brand living off one winner looks healthy until that winner gets tired.

Which email flows exist, and which are missing

We map every flow, when each was last changed, and what each one earns. Most accounts we audit are missing critical flows, are not testing, and have no plan to raise lifetime value. We show you which gaps cost the most first.

Campaigns, list health and deliverability

We read how much of your email revenue comes from campaigns versus flows, how big your sendable list really is, and whether your mail is landing in the inbox. A campaign calendar built on a list that does not open is busy work.

The fix order

The audit ends with a ranked list: what to fix, in what order, and roughly what each fix is worth. You can hand it to your team, your current agency, or us.

What working with us looks like

You share read access to the accounts being audited and to your Shopify reports. About three days later, Ryan walks you through the findings on a call himself, never an account manager reading someone else's notes. You keep the audit whether you hire us or not. If you do, the fee comes off your first month's invoice.

Why we charge for it

A free audit is a sales pitch with a spreadsheet attached. It is written to find the problems the agency sells fixes for. A paid audit gets three full days of work, finds what is actually wrong even when we are not the fix, and is yours to keep. The fee also tells us you will read it.

Who this is for, and who it is not for

For

  • DTC brands spending real money on Meta, Google or TikTok, or relying on Klaviyo for a large share of revenue
  • Founders deciding whether to keep, replace or hire an agency, who want an outside read first
  • Brands whose agency reports platform ROAS while the store numbers tell a different story
  • Teams that will act on the findings, in-house or with a partner

Not for

  • Brands under $1M a year, which need channels run more than reviewed
  • Agencies or freelancers looking for white-label audits
  • Anyone shopping for a free audit to compare pitches

How we price it

The audit is a flat fee, quoted before we start, so there are no surprises. If you hire us within 30 days, the full fee is credited to your first month's invoice, and the audit becomes the starting point for the work, so you never pay for it twice. Ongoing work is a flat monthly retainer scoped to the account and quoted on the first call.

FAQ

What is a marketing audit?

A marketing audit is an outside review of how your marketing spends money and what it earns. For an ecommerce brand that means your ad accounts and your email program, checked against store revenue rather than the platforms' own reports. A good one ends with a ranked list of fixes and what each is worth, not a score or a slide of best practices.

How long does a marketing audit take?

Ours takes about three days once we have read access to the accounts and your Shopify reports. Then Ryan Shell walks you through the findings on a call. You get the findings, the dollars at stake on each, and the order to fix them in.

Is the audit free?

No. Free audits are sales pitches, written to find the problems an agency sells fixes for. Ours is a flat fee, quoted before we start, and the full fee is credited to your first month's invoice if you hire us within 30 days. The first call to talk about it is free; the audit itself is not. You keep the audit either way.

Can you audit just Google Ads, Meta or TikTok?

Yes. We audit Meta, Google and TikTok ad accounts, and Klaviyo email programs, one at a time or together. Ads and email together is often the more useful read, because the two channels share the same customers and usually tell different stories about them.

What access do you need?

Read access to the accounts being audited (Meta Business Manager, Google Ads, TikTok Ads Manager or Klaviyo) and to your Shopify reports, so we can measure against store revenue. You can remove our access as soon as the audit is delivered.

Who does the audit?

Ryan Shell, Hey Frankie's founder, presents every audit himself. He launched his own brand in 2012, bootstrapped it past $30M, and has directed $50M+ in paid media since. No junior staff, and no account manager reading someone else's notes back to you.

Ryan Shell, founder of Hey Frankie

Our founder launched his own DTC brand in 2012, bootstrapped it past $30M with no outside money, ran it profitably for fourteen years and took it on Shark Tank. Along the way he hired agencies big and small and fired every one of them. The questions he asks a client's P&L are the ones he asked his own: what is this spend buying, which customers come back, and where does the margin actually go. That is the difference between advice from a consultant and decisions from someone who has written the checks.

If you already suspect something is off, an audit is the cheapest way to find out what and how much. Ryan walks you through the findings, shows you the money at stake, and leaves you with a fix order you can use with anyone.
